[0104] In an embodiment, objects may be selected for user instantiation. Instantiation of the selected object causes the corresponding process element to execute during runtime according to the internals defined by the selected object. For example, in the case of control objects, the user desires that certain modified configurations of the control objects be synchronized at corresponding devices in the runtime system. The user instructs the system to generate an updated configuration based on the selected configuration and sends the updated configuration to process elements in the runtime system. Thus, during runtime, the process element executes an execution configuration of the control object, wherein the execution configuration includes modifications to the control object. In another example, a user instructs the configuration system to instantiate a graphical display element object included on the display view. The configuration system creates the execution configuration...

Abstract

The technique for synchronizing configuration changes in a process plant allows intelligent and efficient updates to objects and related dependent objects. In addition, techniques for synchronizing minor configuration changes in a process plant enable real-time updates to objects during runtime. These technologies reduce the amount of downtime for process plant online operations and reduce the amount of information that is transmitted through the process control network. Each object may correspond to a process entity, and a dependent object may be referenced by the object or may reference theobject. In some cases, when an engineer modifies an object, the dependent object with the pending modifications to the modified object is identified and displayed to the engineer. The engineer then selects these dependent objects to synchronize with the modified objects, and these dependent objects as well as the modified objects are synchronized and executed by the corresponding devices in the runtime system.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to process plants, and more particularly to simultaneously synchronizing related objects for execution during runtime of a process plant or process control system. Background technique [0002] Distributed process control systems, like those used in chemical, petroleum, or other process plants, typically include one or more process controllers communicatively coupled via an analog, digital, or combined analog / digital bus to one or more field devices. Field devices, which may be, for example, valves, valve positioners, switches, and transmitters (e.g., temperature, pressure, level, and flow rate sensors) are located within the process environment and perform process functions such as opening or closing valves, measuring process parameters, etc. Intelligent field devices, such as field devices conforming to the well-known Fieldbus (Fieldbus) protocol, can also perform control calculations, alarm functions, and ot...
