The modular energy storage system comprises: a battery pack, a power grid, an energy storagedevice and an AC power distribution unit. The energy storage device comprises: a plurality of conversion modules used for converting DC power received from the battery pack into AC power for transmission to the power grid or converting the AC power received from the power grid to DC power for transmission to the battery pack, and the plurality of conversion modules being connected in parallel andbeing connected to the battery pack; and a central controller, used for controlling the plurality of conversion modules to regulate working states thereof in real time. The plurality of conversion modules transmit signals to the central controller via a CAN bus. The system is advantageous in that the modular energy storage system achieves equalization of current between the respective conversionmodules and the central controller by real-time regulation of the power distributed to the respective conversion modules.
