Problems solved by technology

When a different container type and / or a different fluid from the system is required, the configuration of the system must be changed (e.g., different nozzles, different carrier systems, etc.), which can be time consuming, expensive and can lead to increased downtime
[0004] These high-speed container filling systems also typically cannot provide different containers and container arrangements in packages without manual handling of the containers and / or packages, which can be time-consuming, expensive and often inaccurate

[0046] definition

[0047] As used herein, the term "article of manufacture" refers to a product, package, label, or any portion, component, or partially formed portion of such product, package, label. In the case of a fluid product, the article may include a container and / or its contents. When multiple articles are present, they may be referred to as a first article, a second article, a third article, and the like.

[0048] As used herein, the term "assembled product" refers to a product formed by assembling (ie, mechanically joining) different components to form a complete article. As used herein, filling a container with a fluid product, labeling such a container, and applying a closure to a container are not considered to make the fluid product an "assembled product" because the fluid product itself is not created by mechanically joining parts together Forming.

[0049] As used herein, the term "capped" refers to the application of any suitable type of closure to a co...

Abstract

The present invention discloses systems and methods for producing products on demand. In some cases, the product includes a container and contents therein. The containers are arranged on a carrier and are independently guideable along a rail system and deliverable to at least one unit operation station. A control system: receives a demand for a finished product; determines a route for a carrier based on said status of one or more unit operation stations; and advances the carrier along the determined route to produce one or more of said required finished product. The system can be used to produce the same fluid product, different fluid products and other types of products including assembled products.

Description

technical field [0001] The systems and methods described below generally relate to rail systems and methods for producing products based on demand. Background technique [0002] Many types of systems and methods for producing various products are currently in use. Many current types of manufacturing methods are mass production methods designed to mass produce large quantities of a single type of product on one or more production lines. While these lines are generally used very well for making a single type of product, these lines are not well suited for making different types of products, or for making changes to a given product. To provide consumers with a diverse product line, manufacturers must employ many different high-speed production lines, which can be expensive and require a lot of space. Alternatively, the manufacturer must stop production on the production line in order to make changes to it in order to make changes to the product. Such conversions are often ti...
