Problems solved by technology

Adding lyophilized drugs to vials is often impractical due to the difficulty of aseptically transferring solid materials into vials as many drugs are sterilized by filtering liquid formulations
However, after dispensing the drug into the vial, it is also challenging to lyophilize the drug in an aseptic manner, as it is often necessary to expose the open vial to the surrounding environment before the vial cap is attached, risking contamination

Embodiment approach 1

[0211] Embodiment 1. A vial assembly comprising:

[0212] a vial comprising a vial body and a vial neck having a syringe interface; and

[0213] a vial cap having a central opening comprising a threaded segment engaging the syringe interface and a stopper having a stop lower portion that fits within the vial neck and is attached to the vial neck The upper part of the upper part of the vial cap.

Embodiment approach 2

[0214] Embodiment 2. The vial assembly of embodiment 1, wherein the vial cap and the stopper are coextruded.

Embodiment approach 3

[0215] Embodiment 3. The vial assembly of embodiment 1, the vial cap further comprising a flange, the upper portion of the stopper comprising a top portion defining a constraint coupled to a reduced diameter defining an annulus. A small area where the flange of the vial cap extends into the annulus to hold the stopper in place.

Abstract

The needless vial assemblies described herein allow for the access to the contents of a vial, such as a medication, using a syringe without a needle. In some designs, the vial includes a vial neck, which is itself a syringe interface. The vial assemblies also include a cap with a plug, which can be used to seal the vial assembly. The present disclosure further provides methods of filling a vial assembly and methods of filling a syringe using the vial assemblies described herein.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims the benefit of priority to US Provisional Application No. 62 / 375,394, filed August 15, 2016, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. technical field [0003] The present invention relates to a vial with a luer connector for needle-free engagement with a syringe. Background technique [0004] The drug is usually withdrawn from the drug vial using a syringe with a needle attached to the end of the needle. The needle pierces the rubber septum on the vial cap and is pushed against the liquid drug. Once the open end of the needle is submerged in the liquid drug, the drug is withdrawn by pulling on the syringe plunger. [0005] Using a syringe with a needle to draw a drug from a drug vial carries considerable downside risks. Healthcare workers are at risk of injury or infection when using sharp objects, including needles. Additionally, piercing the rubber septum to gain access t...
