Problems solved by technology

This will tax the vision system processor based on DSP or similar architecture
That is, if the DSP continues to preempt the lens control tasks, the tasks of the vision system will be affected
All of these drawbacks make drift compensation a challenge in many applications

[0033] 1. System overview

[0034] figure 1 A detailed view of a vision system 100 including a vision system camera arrangement 110 and an associated lens set / assembly 120 is shown. The results for lens group 120 are further described below. In one embodiment, lens assembly 120 is fixed to the camera, or may be removably mounted with a custom or conventional mount (eg, known as Cine or "C-mount lens mount"). The camera includes a body / housing that houses a number of operational components, including an image sensor or imager 130 (shown in phantom). In this embodiment, the imager 130 is operatively connected to an on-board vision processor 140, which can run various hardware and / or software processes (commonly referred to as vision processes 142). The vision process 142 may include a number of software applications adapted to perform general or specialized vision system tasks such as ID (code) lookup and decode tasks, edge detection, blob analysis, surface inspection, roboti...

Abstract

This invention provides a vision system that is arranged to compensate for optical drift that can occur in certain variable lens assemblies, including, but not limited to, liquid lens arrangements. The system includes an image sensor operatively connected to a vision system processor, and a variable lens assembly that is controlled (e.g. by the vision processor or another range-determining device)to vary a focal distance thereof. A positive lens assembly is configured to weaken an effect of the variable lens assembly over a predetermined operational range of the object from the positive lensassembly. The variable lens assembly is located adjacent to a front or rear focal point of the positive lens. The variable lens assembly illustratively comprises a liquid lens assembly that can be inherently variable over approximately 20 diopter. In an embodiment, the lens barrel has a C-mount lens base.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application is a continuation-in-part of co-pending U.S. Patent Application No. 14 / 271,148, filed May 6, 2014, entitled "SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR REDUCTION OF DRIFTIN AVISION SYSTEM VARIABLE LENS," the teachings of which are adopted by References are expressly incorporated into this application. technical field [0003] This application relates to cameras used in machine vision, and more specifically to autofocus lens assemblies. Background technique [0004] Vision systems for object measurement, inspection and alignment and / or decoding of symbols such as barcodes or simpler ID codes are widely used in industry. The vision system operates based on an image sensor, which acquires images of objects or objects (usually grayscale images, color images, and one-dimensional, two-dimensional or three-dimensional images) by the image sensor, and uses the onboard or networked vision system processor to process the acquired ...
