Abstract

An apparatus and method for optimizing routing failure using modified pathless DAO signaling are disclosed. According to the present invention, a node that switches its current parent node is used to send a regular Directed Acyclic Graph DODAG Advertisement Object DAO message. With varying signaling, the common ancestor node generates an NPDAO on behalf of the switch node when it receives an updated DAO from an alternate path. The common ancestor node provided by the present invention multiplexes the PathSequence in the conventional DAO, wherein the NPDAO is generated based on the conventional DAO. The common ancestor node detects the routing anomaly through the next hop mismatch when receiving the DAO, so as to generate the NPDAO on behalf of the target node. Instead of other DAO messages moving upstream in a conventional way, the pathless DAO moves downstream along the previous path. The present invention provides a new signaling mechanism for limiting routing failures in the network.
