The expression recognition method comprises the steps: obtaining a feature area of at least one facial organ in a to-be-recognizedface image, and obtaining at least one feature area image; inputting the at least one feature area image into a corresponding trained expression recognition neural network, and outputting a corresponding feature vector by the expression recognition neural network to obtain at least one feature vector of a first dimension; combining the feature vectors of the at least one first dimension to obtaina feature vector of a second dimension, wherein the second dimension is equal to the sum of the at least one first dimension; and inputting the feature vector of the second dimension into a trained classifier, so that the classifier outputs the expression class information of the face image. According to the embodiment of the invention, the expression recognition speed can be improved while the expression recognition accuracy is ensured, so that the realization of real-time recognition of the facial expression is facilitated.
