The metering instrument operating state online evaluation method comprises the steps of: determining whether an operating state of a measuring instrument is normal; if so, determining whether abnormal data exists in instrument measurement data; if the abnormal data exists in instrument measurement data, correcting the abnormal data; subjecting the corrected abnormal data to statistical analysis according to a mass or energy balance relationship between superior and subordinate of a metering network to obtainan association between metering errors of instruments; solving the metering error association by using the least square method, and finding out metering errors of the instruments satisfying constraint conditions; and giving out evaluation of metering states of the instruments through comparing the magnitude between precision levels of the instruments and the calculated metering errors.
