The invention discloses a method for generating an optimal protection channel of an MIMO radar antenna, and the method comprises the following steps: transmitting a radar signal to a target object ina set range through the MIMO antenna, and generating an initial protection channel through an echo signal of the target object; initializing parameters, wherein the parameters comprise an initial protection channel parameter vector; setting a cost function according to the requirement of the optimal protection channel; optimizing the initial protection channel parameter vector for multiple times by adopting a mode search algorithm; and taking a protection channel parameter vector enabling the cost function to be minimum after multiple times of optimization, and taking the protection channel parameter vector as an optimal protection channel generation vector to generate an optimal protection channel. According to the method, parameter weighting is performed on the antenna output signal to synthesize the protection channel so as to suppress the sidelobe, the method is applied to the MIMO radar, an auxiliary antenna does not need to be independently arranged, and the hardware requirementis low.
