Embodiment Construction

[0013] The following description relates to systems and methods for warming vehicle tires. vehicles, such as figure 1 The vehicle system shown in may be a performance vehicle that includes a line locking feature for maintaining brake pressure at the non-driven wheels of the vehicle while allowing the driven wheels to rotate. For example, the braking system may include one or more valves that may be actuated by the vehicle controller to maintain brake pressure at the non-driven wheels while relieving brake pressure at the driven wheels when the line lock feature is activated. brake pressure, such as figure 2 An example braking system is shown. During combustion, the controller can, for example, according to image 3 An exemplary method of rotating a drive wheel at a desired rotational speed for a desired duration. The controller can be such as according to Figure 4 An exemplary method of the ® determines a desired rotational speed and a desired duration based on vehicle ...

Abstract

Systems and methods for tire warmup and vehicle launch optimization. Methods and systems are provided for warming vehicle tires prior to a vehicle launch event. In one example, a method may include, in response to an initiation of a burn out event while locking non-driven wheel brakes, adjusting a spinning of driven wheels based on vehicle performance parameters measured during a previous vehiclelaunch. In this way, a vehicle controller may control the tire warming to increase tire traction while reducing tire wear.

Description

technical field [0001] The present description generally relates to methods and systems for controlling vehicle systems to achieve tire warming. Background technique [0002] Certain performance vehicles, such as those used for drag racing or track racing, may include features to enhance racing capabilities. For example, the rear tires of a vehicle can be heated to facilitate traction for subsequent races or laps. This is usually done by combustion, which involves spinning the rear (drive) tires on the road until they heat up due to friction while the vehicle is held essentially in place by the front (non-drive) brakes. This also cleans debris from the rear tires. If the tires are not warmed up sufficiently, their grip may be reduced, leading to increased tire slippage, for example during a vehicle start. However, excessive heating can also reduce traction and increase tire wear. Therefore, controlling the duration for which combustion is performed may help reduce excess...
