Problems solved by technology

Furthermore, the known print heads do not meet the requirements for painting car bodies, since the print head should be as free of undercuts, dead zones and flow-optimized as possible
The known print heads are therefore not or not optimally suitable for the painting of car bodies

Embodiment Construction

[0108] Figure 1A and 1B Various schematic diagrams are shown of a printhead according to the invention that may be used in a paint shop to apply paint to body parts. In some respects, the design and function of the printhead according to the invention correspond to the known printheads described above, so only the details necessary for the invention are described in more detail below.

[0109] The print head according to the invention initially has a nozzle plate 1 with a plurality of nozzles 2 - 5 , through which a spatially limited jet of coating agent can be emitted through each nozzle 2 - 5 . Only four nozzles 2-5 are shown in this schematic. However, the fact that the printhead according to the invention has a considerable number of nozzles, which can be arranged, for example, in rows and columns, is not evident from this schematic illustration.

[0110] Each individual nozzle 2-5 is assigned a valve needle 6-9, wherein each valve needle 6-9 can move in the direction o...

Abstract

The invention relates to an applicator (e.g. pressure head) for applying a coating means (e.g. paint) to a component (e.g. motor vehicle bodywork component), comprising a nozzle chamber (15) with a plurality of nozzles (2-5) for dispensing the coating means in the form of continuous jets or droplets, the coating means flowing through the nozzle chamber (15) to the nozzles (2-5) during operation insuch a way that the nozzle chamber (15) is filled with the coating means during operation. The print head also comprises a plurality of movable valve needles (6-9) that are associated with the individual nozzles (2-5) and selectively open or close each nozzle (2-5) according to the position of the valve needles (6-9). The print head according to the invention also contains an actuator chamber (16) for receiving actuators (10-13) for moving the valve needles (6-9). Furthermore, the applicator according to the invention comprises a sealing element (14) that fluidically separates the actuator chamber (16) from the nozzle chamber (15), in order to prevent contamination of the actuator chamber (16) with the coating means in the nozzle chamber (15). According to the invention, the sealing element (14) is embodied such that the individual valve needles (6-9) can be independently moved without movement of one of the valve needles (6-9) affecting the opening and closing of the nozzles (2-5) associated with the adjacent valve needle (6-9).

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to an applicator (eg a printhead) for applying a coating agent (eg paint) to a component (eg a body part). Background technique [0002] The prior art (eg US 9108424 B2) includes so-called drop-on-demand printheads which emit a jet of liquid droplets or a continuous jet of coating agent, the working principle of which is based on the use of electric valves. A magnetically driven plunger / armature is guided in a coil. If the plunger of the electromagnetic actuator and the seal closing the valve seat are one part, it will be referred to hereinafter as the valve plunger. Depending on the current supply to the coil, the valve plunger is displaced and the nozzle is released or closed. Such a printhead is also described in WO 2012 / 058373 A2. These printheads also work with a valve plunger that is moved by an electrical coil that extends in a guide tube (coil inner tube) in the coil. [0003] A problem with known printheads is...
