Problems solved by technology

[0004] Often, the disadvantage of using temporary barriers against flooding is that residents or building managers must be given advance warning of flooding in order to move the barriers into place before the water level rises

Embodiment Construction

[0026] Referring to the drawings, FIG. 1 shows a flood prevention device, which is used to protect the door 1 next to the doorway 2 in the residential wall 3. The device can also be installed under windows or other openings. The floating device 4 acts as a general door step (or window sill), and one end of the floating device can slide vertically along the guide rails 5a and 5b. Below the floating device 4 is a cavity 6, in which the assembled barrier is in a standby position and has a hydraulic generator 7, which will be described in detail later.

[0027] Figure 2 shows a perspective view of the floating device 4, Figure 5 The cross-sectional view is shown. The floating device is generally a parallelepiped with an upper surface 4a, a rear surface 4b, side surfaces 4c and 4d, and a front surface 4e. The sides 4c and 4d of the floating device are respectively provided with sleeves 8c and 8d, which respectively extend out of the rear face 4b of the floating device 4, and stop at t...

Abstract

There is described an automatically self-erecting barrier to prevent ingress of floodwater into a building. The device comprises a float which when inactive may serve as a doorstep, and when active rises on the floodwater to extend a barrier across the lower part of a doorway into the building. The barrier is guided at its lateral edge in vertical channels fixed to the building on either side of the doorway. The barrier is sealed to the channels by inflatable sealing elements.

Description

Technical field [0001] The invention relates to a flood prevention device and a method for closing the opening in the wall to prevent flood water from passing through. Background technique [0002] Not all damage to buildings caused by flooding is due to the flood itself, but due to the silt deposits entrained in the flood, and also due to the contamination of microorganisms present in the flood. In areas with frequent floods, such as buildings near rivers or seasides, suitable measures to prevent flooding or tide intrusion include setting up temporary barriers across building doorways, or erecting permanent raised thresholds that exceed the expected water level. The most commonly used temporary barrier is the sandbag barrier, which must be placed in place before the floodwater rises above the threshold. [0003] After the sandbags effectively resisted the flood water beyond the threshold for an initial period of time, they began to be saturated by the flood water, and soon water...
