Embodiment Construction

[0044] figure 1 A cross-section of a bioreactor vessel 10 with transparent sides on a support base 11 is shown. For example, vessel 10 may be a modular vessel of a high-throughput bioreactor system, such as the ambr TM 250 system. The system enables automated media filling, inoculation, sampling and feeding, and individual measurement and control of target parameters (such as temperature, impeller speed, pH and dissolved oxygen) for individual parameters of each bioreactor.

[0045] Support base 11 provides a convenient mounting fixture for non-invasive sensors for monitoring medium parameters within vessel 10 . In particular, figure 1 The support base is shown carrying a cable sensor 12 with a cable 13 passing through a hole 14, as shown in more detail in Figures 2a and 2b, respectively, which show a container placed on the base before and after figure 1 Detail of area A of , the hole 14 is formed in the base 11 terminating in a sensor contact surface 15 which presses a...

Abstract

An auto-aligning cable sensor for performing measurements on a medium contained in a vessel is provided. The cable sensor includes a cable which has an end sensor and which is adapted to be carried bya mounting fixture. The mounting fixture and the vessel are movable into a measurement position relative to each other such that a contact face of the end sensor is held in alignment against a surface of the vessel by a pressing force, thereby enabling the end sensor to sense a characteristic of the medium contained in the vessel. The cable sensor further includes an elastically deformable coupling member which is arranged to mediate transfer of the pressing force from the mounting fixture to the cable and thence to the end sensor when the mounting fixture and the vessel are moved into the measurement position. The coupling member deforms under the pressing force such that the cable can flex to tilt the end sensor relative to the surface of the vessel to accommodate misalignment of the contact face and the surface of the vessel.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates to the field of cable sensors for measuring culture medium contained in a vessel, such as a bioreactor vessel. Background technique [0002] Cell culture is the process of growing cells in an artificial environment such as a bioreactor. Typically, cells are grown while suspended in culture medium. Monitoring and / or controlling the environment to which cells are exposed in a bioreactor is important to control the physiology of the cells and the amount of target produced. In particular, the monitoring of various parameters of the cells and / or medium within the bioreactor is key to its control. [0003] Exemplary bioreactor systems suitable for cell culture are described in US 2016 / 0152936 and WO 2014 / 020327. [0004] Parameters of cells can be monitored invasively and / or non-invasively by measuring various properties of the cells. Invasive monitoring typically uses sensors that are inserted directly into the medium cont...
