Embodiment Construction

[0106] According to various embodiments, there may be provided a method for recognizing a driver's current activity, for example based on conventional (intensity) and depth images of a time-of-flight (ToF) camera installed inside a car. The method can classify different actions of the driver based on time-of-flight image sequences (ie, sequences of distance information), driver body key points, and a trained artificial neural network.

[0107] Key parts of the driver's body can be localized, and relevant image regions can be evaluated to classify the wide variety of behaviors and activities a driver might typically perform while sitting in a car. In addition to body movement, the most useful information for recognizing a person's movement can be found next to their hands, especially if someone is somewhat constrained while sitting in a car.

[0108] figure 1 An illustration 100 of how input data for driver activity classification may be determined is shown in accordance with ...

Abstract

The present disclosure relates to a method and system for determining an activity of a vehicle occupant, and more particularly, to a computer-implemented method of determining an activity of a vehicleoccupant, the method comprising the steps performed by a computer hardware component: acquiring sensor data of an occupant using at least five sensors; determining corresponding two-dimensional coordinates or three-dimensional coordinates for a plurality of predetermined parts of the body of the occupant based on the sensor data; determining at least a portion of the sensor data showing a predetermined body part of the occupant based on the sensor data and the two-dimensional or three-dimensional coordinates; and determining the activity of the occupant based on the two-dimensional coordinates or the three-dimensional coordinates and at least a portion of the sensor data.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates to methods and systems for determining activity of vehicle occupants, and more particularly to interior sensing in vehicles. Background technique [0002] Recent technological advances in driver assistance systems are increasing the degree of automation in mass-produced vehicles. In certain situations and scenarios, the human driver can hand over control of the vehicle to the car. For example, Level 3 driver assistance functions offload multiple driving tasks from the driver, allowing him to concentrate on activities other than driving. [0003] Today, however, the driver is still responsible for the driving task. Even with higher levels of automation, the human driver will still be responsible for monitoring the vehicle and, if required, must be able to take back control of the vehicle within a reasonable amount of time. Therefore, the driver still plays the role of fallback in emergency situations. In order to allow...
