Abstract

Ophthalmic lenses and methods of making the same are disclosed. An ophthalmic lens includes metasurface features that define an array of metasurfaces on a lens body. The metasurface array may be adjusted to modify an optical property of the ophthalmic lens, such as glare reduction, using an arrangement of metasurface build elements sized according to the optical wavelength, including smaller than the optical wavelength. The ophthalmic lens may be subjected to physical manipulation, including winding or other folding during the installation process, and thus modified optical properties caused by the array of metasurfaces may be maintained after such manipulation. Ophthalmic lenses may be formed using a molding process in which the array of metasurfaces is associated with a non-solid material and formed into a lens shape with the material.
