Abstract

Battery systems and related methods of securely deploying battery systems in an enclosed space are provided that include a plurality of modules within an enclosed space (e.g., a room, a data center or a storage system), where at least one module includes a plurality of lithium-ion cells and thermal insulators between adjacent lithium-ion cells, and wherein the battery system provides the necessary level of safety by scaling the system such that the internal available volume (measured in liter) of the enclosed space is in the range of about 39 + / -5 to 80 + / -5 times the ampere-hour (Ah) capacity of the lithium ion cells located therein. The related lithium ion battery cell used for measuring the Ah capacity is a lithium ion battery cell which is insulated relative to an adjacent lithium ion battery cell.
