[0033] Referring to FIG. 3, an NMR measurement system 48 according to one embodiment of the present invention includes a nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) wireline logging tool 50 that can be programmed with a wide range of NMR measurement sequences. Specifically, the logging tool 50 is used to receive logging sequence data 52 defining a particular sequence of NMR measurements performed by the logging tool 50 . The data 52 in turn includes status codes, each indicating the status of the NMR measurement sequence during an associated time block, or time interval, of the sequence. Abstract

An NMR logging tool includes at least one antenna and a pulse sequencer. The pulse sequencer is coupled to said at least one antenna and is adapted to receive state descriptors that are indicative of states of an NMR measurement sequence. The pulse sequencer uses the antenna(e) to perform the NMR measurement sequence downhole in a subterranean formation in response to the state descriptors.
