[0049] Disperse Carbopol in cold water. Add and dissolve the acidic ingredients while stirring. The eucalyptol was premixed with the phenylethyl alcohol and added and dissolved with stirring. Sodium hydroxide was added to adjust the pH to 3.5.

The present invention is for compositions and their methods for prevention and treatment of cold and influenza-like symptoms due to respiratory tract viral infections. These compounds and their method of application are effective in both preventing the onset of the symptoms of colds and influenza or significantly mitigating them if already afflicted with such symptoms.

These compounds and their methods of use are effective in preventing the onset of cold and flu symptoms or in significantly alleviating symptoms in patients already suffering from these diseases. Background of the invention [0002] Many viruses are known to cause symptoms associated with respiratory viral infections. The common cold is a complex of symptoms caused by 200 antigenically distinct viruses in five viral families. These families include rhinoviruses, myxoviruses, paramyxoviruses, respiratory syncytial viruses, adenoviruses, and coronaviruses. The most important ones are rhinoviruses.
