Embodiment Construction

[0023] The invention relates to a tire air pressure monitor which is connected with a tire valve stem or arranged in the tire valve stem, and a method for using the monitor. The tire pressure monitor described above responds when tire pressure drops to a predetermined differential pressure, for example by sending a visual, audio, electrical, electromagnetic or other signal in response to the drop in tire pressure.

[0024] see now figure 1 , depicts an embodiment of a tire pressure monitor 20 mounted on the valve stem 22 of a tire. As shown in FIGS. 2-4 , the aforementioned tire pressure monitor 20 includes a lens 24 , a main body 26 and a lower body 28 . The aforementioned lens 24 is generally made of plastic materials, such as acrylic, polycarbonate, etc., but not limited thereto. As shown in FIG. 2, the aforementioned lens 24 is cylindrical with a pointed tip. In another embodiment, the lenses may be domed, or generally cylindrical structures.

Abstract

A low tire pressure monitoring device (20) that is provided within a tire valve wire stem (210) and methods of using the same. The monitoring device comprises a counter-pressure chamber (21), a flexible membrane (36), a contact member, counter-pressure chamber pin (230), a PC board (29), and a means for emitting a signal. The monitoring device is calibrated by trapping the tire's initial air pressure in the counter-pressure chamber. The monitoring device (20) monitors the pressure differential between the counter-pressure chamber (21) and the tire. When the pressure differential between the pressure in the counter-pressure chamber and the pressure within the tire exceeds a predetermined maximum pressure differential, the flexible membrane (36) is deflected so that an electrical circuit is completed and a warning signal is emitted.

Description

[0001] References Related to the Invention [0002] This application claims the benefit of US Patent Application Serial No. 09 / 785,252, filed February 20, 2001, the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference. technical field [0003] In particular, the present invention relates to a tire pressure monitor which is connected with the valve stem of the tire or arranged in the valve stem of the tire. Background technique [0004] Under-inflated tires are one of the most common problems with tires. Tires are usually inflated when installed and not tested thereafter. So although the owner's manual has reminded, only a few people will regularly check the tire pressure. Driving with too low tire pressure not only negatively affects the vehicle's handling characteristics, but can also be a contributing factor to tire tread separation. Vehicle rollovers as a direct result of tire tread separation have recently resulted in a number of fatalities in the United Stat...
