Embodiment Construction

[0045] The invention utilizes free and unlimited solar energy to generate heat and electricity. Embodiments in accordance with the present invention can be scaled to suit needs, ranging from small vertical stand-alone systems for residential and small commercial use to mid-scale installations for workshops or factories to large component structures to reduce, if not eliminate, words) California's power crisis. The photovoltaic invention is economical to install and maintain, reliable and does not require extensive maintenance, is efficient and cost-effective to operate, and does not pollute the environment. The sun is an inexhaustible source of energy.

[0046] With the present invention, businesses, factories, retail and office buildings, homes, farms and villages can generate some, if not all, of their own electricity and heat and avoid today's largest uncontrollable business cost, purchased from fossil fuels or The price of electricity produced from nuclear fuel is steadi...

Abstract

An array of elongated concave parabolic trough-shaped reflectors is disclosed. The orientation of the array is biaxially kept essentially perpendicular to rays of the sun by an optical control such that sunlight is reflected and concentrated along a focal line of each elongated reflector by which (a) water in a tube disposed at the focal line is heated by reflected line focused sunlight impinged thereon and/or (b) line focused reflected sunlight is optically transformed into point focused reflected sunlight using Fresnel lenses from which electricity is generated using solar cells upon which the point focused reflected sunlight is impinged.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to the conversion of solar energy into other energy, including heat and electricity, and in particular to the use of elongated concave trough reflectors linked in an array for unitary movement and maintaining a substantially perpendicular relationship between the reflectors and the sun's rays , to heat water with line-focused, reflected sunlight and generate electricity with point-focused reflected sunlight generated from line-focused reflected sunlight. Background technique [0002] Solar energy is free and available everyday. It is clean, pollution-free energy. Providing a reliable, long-term, economical and efficient way of harnessing sunlight for electricity and heat has been an unsolved problem until the present invention. [0003] It has already been proposed to convert direct sunlight into heat or electricity using flat panel solar converters. [0004] Stent-supported panels that generate electricity fr...
