Embodiment Construction

[0022] According to the present invention, by referring to Figure 5 to Figure 7 , shows a disc brake assembly 129 that includes a disc brake pad assembly 133 and a brake caliper 115 . As noted above, the novel assembly 133 can be fitted into prior art disc brakes 10 . The assembly 133 includes a brake pad 131 including a tailgate 134 to which the friction material 122 is fastened. The tailgate 134 includes a pair of curved surfaces in the shape of struts 140 circumferentially spaced from each other on its radially outer edge 135 . The tailgate 134 also includes a pair of protrusions in the form of radially outwardly extending lugs 150 projecting from the radially outer edge 135 of the tailgate 134 and positioned between the struts 140 .

[0023] as Figure 5 and Figure 6 As shown, the leaf spring 124 is elongated, has a length L, and has a central portion 148 and end regions 149, wherein the central portion 148 is centrally located along the length of the spring. The mi...

Abstract

A disc brake assembly including a brake pad, a pad retainer, a brake caliper, and a pad spring, the pad retainer having a planar region situated at a first radius for engagement with a planar region of the pad spring to restrain radial movement of the pad, the pad retainer being secured to an outboard side of the caliper at a second radius and having a crook adjacent the planar region to allow the second radius to be smaller than the first radius, in which the pad spring has a rounded edge adjacent the crook.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a disc brake assembly. Background technique [0002] Known disc brakes ( Figure 1 to Figure 4 shown in ) includes a disc or rotor 20 mounted on a hub for rotation with the wheel. The brake pylon 12 is fixed relative to the axis of rotation of the rotor 20 and is fastened to a non-rotating part of the vehicle (eg, the vehicle suspension). In "floating caliper" type brakes, the caliper 15 includes a bridge 16 fastened to the housing 14, said bridge 16 being slidably mounted on the pylon 12 to allow a 20 axis of rotation for movement. The driver 18 is connected to one or more pistons or tappets (not shown) that are disposed within the housing 14 to apply the force required for brake operation. [0003] A pair of brake pads 22 includes friction material 36 mounted to a solid tailgate 34 and is provided at either side of the rotor 20 with the friction material facing the plane of the rotor. . The rear fence 34 of the l...
