Problems solved by technology

[0030] References JP 11-273576, JP2000-047631, JP2000-047632 and JP2000-173482 describe plasma plate structures that are particularly suitable for obtaining stable discharges by means of high frequency pulse trains; however the use of specific plate structures raises other cost issues

Embodiment Construction

[0064] According to the preferred embodiment, and with reference to figure 1 and figure 2 , the co-panel used to realize the present invention comprises:

[0065] a backplane (not shown), with an array of electrodes A, coated with a dielectric layer 1 with an array of spacers 21, 22;

[0066] A panel (not shown), with an array of electrode pairs X, Y, is coated with a dielectric layer 3 .

[0067] The overall direction of the electrodes X and Y of the panel is perpendicular to the overall direction of the electrodes A on the backplane.

[0068] The dielectric layers 1, 3 are themselves coated with a very thin protective and secondary electron emission layer, here this layer (not shown) is based on MgO.

[0069] Here, an array of spacers is formed by a wall 21 extending parallel to the electrode A of the back plate and a wall 22 extending parallel to the electrodes X, Y of the face plate so as to be connected to the electrode A on the one hand and to the paired electrode o...

Abstract

According to this method, before a high-frequency pulse train is applied between the two electrodes of a pair carried by one plate, at least one sustain pulse is applied between an electrode of this pair and an electrode of another plate of the panel.As the sustain discharges are not generated between the same electrodes as the stabilized discharges, the electrodes may be moved further apart so as to lower the stabilization frequency without thereby having to increase the sustain voltages.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a plasma display panel addressing and driving method. Background technique [0002] Reference JP 10-171399 (HITACHI) describes a coplanar type plasma panel comprising: [0003] a backplate having a first array of electrodes; [0004] The faceplate, parallel to the backplane, has a second array of electrode pairs perpendicular to the first array, each pair of electrodes leaving a discharge space therebetween at the intersection of the electrodes of the first array and the pairs of electrodes of the second array. [0005] Addressing and driving of such plasma display panels usually involves the following steps: [0006] igniting a discharge in each intersection area to be energized by applying at least an addressing voltage pulse between the intersecting backplane and panel electrodes in this area; [0007] A series of discharges is again initiated in this region by applying a series of sustain voltage pulses across the same p...
