Abstract

The configurable and addressable memory (CAM) system is composed of linked CAM modules. Each CAM module includes CAM matrix containing several lows. In operation of look-up table, matching operation is carried out between entry fields stored in CAM and word field from key code, and a field of matching signal is generated in low of match hit. Each CAM module receives a link control signal, and each row receives input match signal from previous CAM module, and generates output match signal base on the said arrangement. A instance: a CAM system can be dynamically configured as one or multiple independent CAM sub systems with different widths based on data stored in configuration registers or current values of key codes or other information in look-up table. In some instances, multiple encoders in different priority levels are dynamically linked to matched output of CAM module selected so as to realize operation of table look-up in parallel.
