[0018] This invention enables a touch sensing system to detect the location of a touch on a touch sensitive surface. The touch sensing system realized by this invention includes a first layer of sensing strips arranged in a first direction, and a second layer of sensing strips arranged in a second direction. The first and second directions may be substantially mutually orthogonal. In this layout, a touch to the touch sensitive surface generates a signal on at least one sensor strip per layer. The location of the touch is then determined by locating the touch on the two sensing strips. The first layer of sensing strips is used to determine the position of the touch along one axis and the second layer of sensing strips is used to determine the position of the touch along the other axis.
