Problems solved by technology

In this case, conventional spread spectrum generators are not suitable for handling multiple signals with different clock frequencies in their existing configurations
Therefore, since the hardware of the conventional spread spectrum clock generator has a fixed form, the reduction of EMI cannot be significantly improved

Embodiment Construction

[0022] figure 2 is a block diagram of a variable spread spectrum clock generator according to an example embodiment of the present invention. refer to figure 2 , the variable spread spectrum clock generator 200 ('clock generator 200 ') may include a spread spectrum clock generation circuit 205 . The spread spectrum clock generating circuit 205 may include a plurality of delay elements 211 , 212 , 213 and 214 , each of which may include a controller CON and a delay unit DEL, and a plurality of path control units 221 , 222 and 223 . The clock generator 200 may include a delay element array (DCA) controller CON INI 210 and a clock generator CLOCK GEN 240 .

[0023] The first delay element 211 may include a controller CON1 and a delay unit DEL1. The controller CON1 may output the feedback signal C0 obtained using the first controller output signal C1 received from the first path control unit 221 and the first delayed output signal D1 ('first delayed signal D1') received from ...

Abstract

A clock generator and method of generating a spread spectrum clock (SSC) signal, wherein a delay element array (DCA) control signal may be output based on one of a received spread spectrum clock generator (SSCG) signal and a feedback signal. The SSC signal may be generated based on at least one of the DCA control signal and the plurality of path control signals. Based on multiple path control signals, the modulation characteristics of the SSC signal can be controlled.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a variable spread spectrum clock generator suitable for systems using two or more clock frequencies. Background technique [0002] As the frequency of the computer clock signal increases, the processing speed of the computer system can be increased. However, as the frequency increases, the electromagnetic interference (EMI) generated due to the high frequency clock signal also increases. To prevent EMI, treatments such as shielding and filtering can typically be implemented, but at considerable expense. [0003] Spread spectrum technology modulates the clock signal frequency so that the energy concentrated at a specific frequency is spread evenly over a wider frequency band. By utilizing spread spectrum techniques, EMI can be reduced without utilizing costly shielding and / or filtering methods. [0004] Typically, a modified phase-locked loop (PLL) can be used to generate a spread spectrum clock signal. However, the ...
