Embodiment Construction

[0056] image 3 An example of the structure of the switching device of the present invention is shown also in the specific case of three input fibers and three output fibers.

[0057] Input stage 1 includes three broadcast modules MD1-MD3 receiving respective main multiplexing input signals WM1-WM3;

[0058] The output stage 2 comprises programmable multiplexer modules OWS1-OWS3, the outputs of which form the respective output ports A'1-A'3 of the switching means. The input of each multiplexer module is associated with a respective different broadcast module MD1-MD3.

[0059] The intermediate stage 3 comprises an optical line connecting each input of each programmable multiplexer module to the broadcast module output associated with that input.

[0060] Each broadcast module MD1-MD3 includes a programmable demultiplexer module IWS1-IWS3 and a star coupler SC1-SC3.

[0061] Each programmable demultiplexer module has an input forming one of the input ports A1-A3 of the switch...

Abstract

The device comprises an input stage (1) including radio modules (MD1-MD3) which provides the same multiplexed signals replicas, an output stage (2) including input programmable multiplexer modules (OWS1-OWS3) which are associated with each radio module, and a middle stage (3) which connects the input of each programmable multiplexer module associated with the radio module with the associated radio module output. Each radio module includes programmable demultiplexer modules (IWS1-IWS3) and star couplers (SC1-SC3), wherein the programmable demultiplexer modules (IWS1-IWS3) are provided with a transfer output (B1) and selection output (B2). The transfer output (B1) is connected with a first input (C1) of the coupler and the input and output of the processing unit (RG, RG') are respectively connected with the selection output (B2) and a second input (C2) of the coupler. The device can be applied in the semi-transparent nodes of mixed optical network.

Description

technical field [0001] The field of the invention is that of wavelength division multiplexed optical transport networks. The invention relates to optical switching arrangements that can be used in routing nodes of such networks. [0002] The present invention more particularly relates to a reconfigurable optical switch which receives a wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) signal via an input port and separates the channels (or more simply, the wavelengths) making up the received WDM signal according to a control signal Switches to each selected output port. Channels switched to the same output port are combined to form the output multiplex signal for that port. Background technique [0003] Nodes of a WDM network may be equipped with regenerators that operate individually on each channel of the received wavelength division multiplexed signal to reshape and resynchronize the optical signal before forwarding it to other nodes. This network is then referred to as an "opaque...
