[0042] figure 1 An aspect of the measurement principle of the invention is illustrated by schematically showing an extension probe with side walls and presenting a hollow lumen or channel 1 , 2 . The hollow cavity is filled with a conductive medium, preferably a liquid electrolyte such as water with NaCl solution. Two electrodes 5 are provided on the probe. The electrodes are connected to external devices by wires 3,4. When the probe is relaxed or not stretched, there is a distance D between the two electrodes 1 , while in the condition that the probe is under tension by applying a force F in the axial direction, the distance becomes D 2 . Electrodes are used to measure electrical properties in the fluid between them. When the probe is stretched axially, the electrical impedance will increase due to the smaller diameter of the fluid-filled channel and the longer distance between the electrodes.
