Problems solved by technology

Excessive detours in the data path create additional delays during data transfer
Furthermore, for data packets sent under UDP (User Datagram Protocol) as specified in RFC 768, erroneous packets are not retransmitted normally but simply dropped
As a result, the quality of service can be compromised

Abstract

In a wireless communications system in which a mobile node seeks a communication session with a correspondent node by first signaling for initialization of the communication session through a first data path via an intermediate node. Thereafter, contents of the communication is established through a second data path in which the mobile node and the correspondent node communicate straightforwardly without going through the intermediate node.

Description

[0001] Claiming priority under 35 U.S.C § 119 [0002] This application claims priority to U.S. Provisional Application No. 60 / 561,955, filed April 13, 2004, entitled "Service Based Policy for Mobile IP Co-location Care of Address," and is hereby assigned to the assignee and combined for reference. technical field [0003] The present invention relates generally to packet data communication, and, more particularly, to wireless multimedia packet data communication using separate communication paths for signaling and for content transfer. Background technique [0004] Global networking allows information to be accessed quickly regardless of geographic distance. FIG. 1 shows a simplified schematic diagram of the global network connections generally referred to as the Internet, indicated by reference numeral 20 . The Internet 20 is actually many networks with different hierarchical levels linked to each other. The Internet 20 operates under IP (Internet Protocol) issued by IE...
