Abstract

The invention relates to a device (1) for determining the position of an engine. The inventive device comprises a sensor (2) consisting of a rotating part (8) and a fixed part (6), said fixed part being equipped with: means for generating a first signal as a function of the position of the rotating part in relation to the fixed part; second means for generating a second signal which is phase shifted in relation to the first signal; means for comparing the value of the second signal to a reference value; and means for detecting at least one characteristic event on the first signal, generating a third binary-type signal (36) and switching the binary signal from a first value to a second value following the detection of at least one of the characteristic events if the result of the comparison is positive. The device also comprises engine control means (4) consisting of means (50) for detecting the switching of the third signal (36) and a counter (56).
