Embodiment Construction

[0017] FIG. 1 shows a section through the intake side of an exhaust gas turbocharger, wherein a compressor housing 2 and an intake housing 1 are arranged at the intake of the compressor. Neither the compressor wheel, which is mounted rotatably about the axis indicated by the dash-dot line, nor the turbine side of the exhaust gas turbocharger are shown. Arrows indicate the direction of flow of the medium to be compressed (usually air).

[0018] The intake housing can be designed, for example, as a silencer or as an intake connection.

[0019] The intake casing is fastened to the compressor casing by a plurality of screws distributed along the circumference or other suitable fastening devices. Screws secure the inlet housing axially and radially relative to the exterior of the compressor housing. In FIG. 1 , only the screws are indicated by short dash lines.

[0020] For screw fastening, the intake housing has a fastening flange 12 in the radially outer region of the housing ...

Abstract

A safety design housing for a compressor, especially a turbocharger for an IC engine has the air entry housing (1) secured to the compressor housing (2) via two outer flanges (12, 22) and a number of fasteners. The inner end of the air inlet housing is supported via an integral flange (13) on an inner flange (23) of the compressor housing. The inner part of the housing has a shaped wall (25) enclosing the fan and incorporating a void (26) which, with the inner spaces of the housing, provide a containment space for debris from a disintegrating fan. The design contains both the radial and axial forces of the debris. The compressor housing can be made of several parts, or made in one piece.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to the field of exhaust gas turbochargers. [0002] It relates to a device for fastening an intake housing on a compressor housing, and to an exhaust gas turbocharger compressor housing. Background technique [0003] Centrifugal compressors rotating at high peripheral speeds are used in exhaust gas turbochargers. Therefore, a high kinetic energy is stored in the component. In the event of a compressor wheel burst, it is required that the fragments not penetrate the casing enclosing the wheel so that neither personnel nor equipment are at risk. This is achieved by surrounding the compressor wheel with a casing part (containment vessel) that can absorb the energy stored in the wheel. In order for the forces not to increase to unacceptable levels when the energy is dissipated, certain parts of the structure must be elastically and plastically deformable (collapsible zones). [0004] The exhaust gas turbocharger is fastened direct...
