Abstract

A dust collection system of a vacuum cleaner includes a dust cup formed by a cylindrical side wall, and a disc-shaped member divides the dust cup into an upper part and a lower part. The dirty air flows from the upper part to the lower part through the gap between the outer periphery of the disc-shaped member and the side wall of the dust cup through the disc-shaped member. The disk member is supported on a centrally located delivery conduit having perforated walls above and below the disk member. The perforated walls allow airflow to flow into the delivery duct for further filtration or to exhaust the dust cup. The perforated wall above the disc allows airflow to fill the lower portion of the dust cup with large dust particles, and the perforated wall below the disc continues to flow through the dust cup as it becomes more and more restricted, improving durability. In various embodiments of the present invention, the air flow is directed through a delivery duct to a fine dust filter in a compartment at the bottom or top of the dust cup, or to a filter bag at the upper end of the dust cup.
