[0042] see now figure 1 , the signal decomposition-reconstruction system 10 includes an analyzer 12 having an input port 14a and a pair of output ports 16a, 16b. Each output port 16a, 16b is connected to a corresponding pair of input ports 18a, 18b of the combiner 20 .

[0043] The analog input signal X fed to the analyzer input port 14a is decomposed into a pair of signals W' and V', each signal W' and V' fed to a respective one of the output ports 16a, 16b. Likewise, a pair of input signals W', V' fed to the combiner input ports 18a, 18b is reconstructed into an output signal Y at the combiner output port 22a. The decomposition and reconstruction process performed by analyzer 12 and synthesizer 20 and signals W' and V' are described further below. Suffice it to say that the input signal X is decomposed into signals W' and V' in order to later combine the signals W' and V' to reconstruct the input signal X correctly.

[0044] It should be noted that the sub-analyzer and su...

Abstract

A method and modem (202) for sending serial input data over a transmission link are disclosed. The serial input data is divided into parallel data components before being rotated by an invertible linear map. To analyze the received signal, a computationally efficient multirate wavelet filter is used in the receiver (204). The self-interference component for each sub-band is calculated in the receiver (204), and the tap weights of the filter bank are obtained as a function of a set of self-interference values. A weighted sum is formed and subtracted from the delayed received signal to cancel the interference, and the sum is removed from the recovered signal.

Description

Background technique [0001] As known to those skilled in the art, a modem is an electronic device that modulates transmitted signals and demodulates received signals. A modem generally provides an interface between a digital device and an analog communication system, thereby enabling analog transmission of digital information between two terminals or stations. Such transmissions can occur over transmission links such as telephone lines, cellular communication links, satellite links, and cable television, each of which is typically bandwidth limited. That is, information can be transmitted over the transmission link only over a predetermined frequency range with the greatest bit error rate. [0002] Modems are well known for providing wireless transmission between transmitting and receiving stations. This wireless communication is used in a variety of applications: VHF, IS-54 (cellular), IS-95 (cellular), SPADE (satellite), GSM (cellular), HDTV and SAT-TV, each utilizing one ...
