[0011] The prior art IGEC documents describe methods of operating an IGEC as a stand-alone unit. However, the prior art does not describe the use of IGECs in conjunction with a respiratory care station comprising ventilation devices, respiratory monitors and information management systems. If used in conjunction with respiratory care stations, IGEC can provide O 2 with CO 2 The benefit of gas exchange while the ventilator is set to a less drastic setting. Obvious collateral benefits for patients include reduced lung injury caused by ventilation devices. It can also reduce the length of time a patient in emergency care is taken off ventilation.
