Problems solved by technology

[0003] Existing RFID tags cannot report their local power detected, and RFID readers must rely entirely on the power reflected by the tag for any type of power control
Additionally, existing tags do not report their respective power levels in the event that there is not enough power to power the tags

Abstract

An embodiment of the present invention provides an apparatus, comprising an RF ID tag capable of reporting receiver signal strength indication, wherein the receiver signal strength may be indicated by an a RSSI byte included with an electronic product code (EPC) data packet. The EPC data packet may be in the standard SGTIN-64 EPC data format. Further, the RF ID tag capable of reporting signal strength may enable power control or beam steering.

Description

Background technique [0001] Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) may refer to technology that can identify objects using radio waves, but is not limited thereto. RFID systems can provide non-contact, non-line-of-sight identification. An RFID system can employ three components: an antenna or coil, a transceiver (with a decoder), and a transponder (RF tag) that is electrically programmed with unique information. However, it should be understood that the RFID system may have more or less components according to usage requirements, so the present invention is not limited to the RFID system including the above components. [0002] The antenna can emit a radio signal that activates the tag's electronics, enabling data to be read and written to the tag's electrically erasable programmable read-only memory (EEPROM). The antenna can be packaged together with a transceiver and a decoder to become an interrogator, which is generally called a reader, although it can also write to a wri...
