Abstract

The invention provides a method of running a control line along with a tubular string, which comprises the steps of providing a protection tool and an interlocking system for permitting or inhibiting the movement of the gripping element of a tubular string; moving the control line to a position away from the tubular string; disposing the protection tool adjacent to the control line; detecting the presence of the protection tool by means of the interlocking system; operating the interlocking system to allow the movement of the gripping element towards the tubular string in response to the presence of the protection tool; and engaging the gripping element with the tubular string. Thus, the control line is prevented from the engagement with the gripping element.
