Problems solved by technology

[0005] While peer-to-peer wireless hop networks can cover a wider area than single-hop wireless networks, single-hop and peer-to-peer hop still require wireless devices to remain within a single coverage area
This requirement limits the mobility of wireless devices
Conventional technology also cannot transmit information seamlessly from one wired network to another in a wireless manner

Embodiment Construction

[0013] Various embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail below. In this specification, examples of embodiments are shown in the drawings, wherein reference numbers in the drawings relate to like elements in the specification.

[0014] The present invention provides a method and a system for enabling electronic devices in a wired and wireless hybrid mesh network to seamlessly roam between different wired access points in a wireless manner. These electronic devices may be directly connected to the wired access point, or the electronic device may be connected to the wired access point through any wireless or wired hopping or routing mechanism. The system of the present invention can utilize a peer-to-peer hopping scheme to keep wireless electronic devices in a single gateway area connected. In a preferred situation, the system of the present invention can use the peer-to-peer hopping scheme to keep the wireless electronic device connected within a larger w...

Abstract

The present invention discloses a multi-gateway system. The multi-gate system may include an access point associated with a zone, the access point providing a network coverage within the zone; a wireless client adapted to communicate with the access point when the wireless client is in the zone; and a virtual central processing device associated with a virtual media access control (MAC) address, wherein the virtual central processing device communicates with the access point to redirect a data packet between the wireless client and a destination.

Description

[0001] Referenced related applications [0002] This application is related to and claimed in US Provisional Patent Application No. 60 / 843,297, filed September 11, 2006, by Hong Zeng et al., entitled "Multi-Gateway System and Method." technical field [0003] The present invention relates to a multi-gateway system and method; specifically, the present invention relates to a multi-gateway system and method, wherein electronic devices or wireless clients in a wired and wireless hybrid mesh network can wirelessly connect to different Roam seamlessly between wired access points. Background technique [0004] A conventional wireless network system covers its network area by using a single hop or peer-to-peer hop. A conventional single-hop system may include a notebook computer, which uses a Wi-Fi communication protocol to connect to a wired network in a wireless manner. To give another example, it is known that a GSM mobile phone needs a physical structure like a base station ...
