Abstract

A system for controlling combustion phasing in an internal combustion engine (1) is provided that includes a first sensor (14) positioned within a first variable volume combustion chamber (2) and a vibration sensor (12) positioned outside of the first and second variable volume combustion chambers (2,3,4,5). A first signal from the first sensor (14) is used to control the combustion process in the first variable volume combustion chamber (2) and a combination of the first signal from the first sensor (14) and the second signal from the vibration sensor (12) is used to control the combustion process in the at least one second variable volume combustion chamber (3,4,5).
