The method is characterized in that in the control process, a density meter is arranged on a bottom flow discharge pipe which is positioned at the bottom part of the settling tank, the tail end of the bottom flow discharge pipe is connected with a feed inlet of a buffer tank, a discharge port of the buffer tank is connected with a variable-frequency speed regulating pump, the variable-frequency speed regulating pump is interlocked with the density meter, the opening and the closing of the variable-frequency speed regulating pump are controlled according to the deviation between the actual measured value of the density meter and the set value, thereby controlling the discharge amount of the bottom flow at the bottom part of the settling tank. The method implements the automatic regulation process technology of the bottom flow of the settling tank when adopting the settling tank for carrying out the liquid-solid separation, thereby being applicable to all the processes which adopt the settling tank for carrying out the liquid-solid separation of the material liquid. The method is used for optimizing the production process of aluminum oxide, improving energy efficiency, controlling precision, reducing energy consumption, reducing production cost and improving labor productivity.
