Abstract

A system (100) is disclosed that is arranged to be connected to an electrical power supply. The system (100) comprises a plurality of electric load component comprising stages (110, 120) for cooperatively producing an output (T out ), each stage in a first subset (110) of said stages comprising at least one electrical load component (114, 124) having a first load and each stage in a second subset (120) of said stages comprising at least one electrical load component (112, 122) having a second load, the first load being larger than the second load. The system has a controller (130) for controlling the electrical load components (112, 114, 122, 124). The controller (130) is arranged to estimate voltage variations on the electrical power supply from the switching frequencies of the respective electrical load components during a predefined time frame. The controller (130) further implements an algorithm for adjusting the switching frequencies of the electrical load components having the first load (114, 124) and the electrical load components having the second load (112, 122) in response to said estimation to reduce the voltage variations on the electrical power supply during a next time frame whilst ensuring that the plurality of stages (110, 120) are capable of producing the output (T out ) during the next time frame. The system (100) thus ensures that the amount of flicker generated by the system (100) remains within acceptable limits.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a system arranged to be connected to a power supply, the system comprising a plurality of stages cooperating to produce an output, each stage comprising an electrical load component. [0002] The invention also relates to a method for regulating voltage variations on a power supply caused by such a system in order to reduce the human perceptibility of the voltage variations in, for example, a light source connected to the power supply. Background technique [0003] The occurrence of voltage variations, especially voltage dips, on a power supply can have deleterious effects, for example voltage dips can cause electrical appliances to malfunction, or at least produce observable variations in their output. For example, an incandescent light bulb may exhibit temporary changes in its light intensity due to voltage fluctuations. This effect is commonly referred to as flicker and is understood to be an undesirable effect, especially ...
