The system comprises a battery for providing power, a CPU, an embedded controller to detect alternating current power supply removal signals and to produce and transmit underclocking control signals, a basic input-output system to receive underclocking control signals and send underclocking order to the CPU to carry out the underclocking process. The protection method for batteries of electronic devices is also disclosed in the invention. The underclocking mechanism designed in the invention can lower the power consumption and avoid harm to the batteries when the electronic device is powered by the batteries.
