Embodiment

[0047] CLAIMS 1. A method for reconfiguring a wireless transmit / receive unit (WTRU) medium access control (MAC) entity, wherein the method comprises performing an active set update procedure.

[0048] 2. The method of embodiment 1, wherein the reconfiguration is accomplished using an uplink enhanced dedicated channel (E-DCH).

[0049] 3. The method of embodiment 1, wherein the MAC entity reset is performed during an active set update when a modulation mode is changed.

[0050] 4. The method of embodiment 3, wherein the higher order modulation mode is a 16QAM modulation mode that activates transmission and reception using 16-symbol quadrature amplitude modulation (16QAM).

[0051] 5. The method according to any one of the preceding embodiments, wherein the MAC entity is defined as MAC-es / e.

[0052] 6. The method according to any one of the preceding embodiments, further comprising clearing the buffer.

[0053] 7. The method as in any one of embodiments 3-5 wherein the WTRU p...

Abstract

A method and apparatus for reconfiguring a wireless transmit / receive unit (WTRU) are directed to receiving an active set update message indicating that a mode of operation allowing a certain modulation scheme is enabled or disabled and performing at least one of: performing a MAC reset procedure, updating a set of reference enhanced transport format combination indicators (E-TFCIs) and associatedpower offsets, determining actions related to E-DPCCH boosting, modifying information related to an enhanced dedicated channel (E-DCH), and modifying an index that indicates an E-DCH transport block size table. The update message includes at least one modified information element (IE).

Description

technical field [0001] This application relates to wireless communications. Background technique [0002] Higher order modulation for the uplink (UL) has been introduced into some wireless communication networks. An example is Release 7 of the High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) specification. In these specifications, for example, a user equipment (UE) may operate in (or not in) a 16-symbol quadrature amplitude modulation (16QAM) mode. When a UE operates in 16QAM mode, it must use one of some newly defined Enhanced Dedicated Channel (E-DCH) transport block tables suitable for transmission at data rates up to the maximum rate allowed for 16QAM operation . When the UE is not operating in 16QAM mode, it must use one of the original E-DCH transport block tables. [0003] In practical configurations, not all cells of a radio network have to be updated at the same time to support new features like 16QAM operation. Therefore, it is likely that during the initial configuration so...
