[0051] Preparation of LVP
[0052] About 1 metric ton of lithium vanadium phosphate was prepared according to the following method. Multiple batches of LHP, V 2 o 3 Mix with carbon in water and spray dry. A single batch consisting of LHP (32.29 kg, Suzhou) was dissolved in deionized water (120 kg). Add V to the LVP solution in the Attritor mixer 2 o 3 (15.44kg, Stratcor) and Super P (2.269kg, Timcal) to form a slurry. This slurry was spray dried (inlet 350°C / outlet 142°C) to form a homogeneous precursor composition. The precursor composition was ball milled for 4 hours to form a milled precursor composition. The resulting milled precursor composition was pelletized under 2000 psi rolling pressure to form particles 3 / 16 inch in diameter. Subsequently, the pelletized precursor was pre-fired in a pan oven at 260° C. for about 4 hours to form a precursor composition with a moisture content of less than 1%.
