The device comprises a generator return circuit, wherein the generator return circuit consists of a short circuit generator, a breaker, a reactor, a resistor and a primary side of a step-up transformer which are connected in series; a secondary side of the step-up transformer is connected with a wave-modulated branch and a converter valve to be tested in parallel respectively, and the wave-modulated branch consists of the breaker, a wave-modulated capacitor and a wave-modulated resistor which are connected in series; the low potential of the secondary side of the step-up transformer is earthed; and the converter valve to be tested is also connected with a current source and a voltage source, and the converter valve to be tested is connected with the output ends of the current source and the voltage source respectively to form the return circuit. The testing device has the advantages of accurately testing the test waveforms of the converter valve and providing reliable test data for the improvement of the performance of the converter valve along with simple structure and easy realization.
