[0014] A plug-in hybrid motor vehicle has a suitable rechargeable battery system which typically powers at least one electric motor for driving at least two wheels. While the vehicle is being driven by a vehicle operator, the programmed computer is used to manage the operation of the electric motor and the power delivered to the wheels in response to operator commands. While the battery system can be charged when the vehicle is not being driven, vehicle range is limited even with a fully charged battery system. In the hybrid electric motor powered vehicles involved, the onboard gasoline powered engine is arranged to power a generator to drive the electric motor when the battery reaches a low charge condition. The present invention and the following illustrations focus on a fuel tank and evaporative emissions control system for a plug-in hybrid vehicle gasoline engine.
