Embodiment Construction

[0029] Such as figure 2 As shown, in an illustrative or exemplary embodiment of the invention, the optical transceiver module 20 has an elongated rectangular shape defined by an elongated housing assembly 22 at the forward end of the housing assembly 22 With socket 24 . Refer again Figure 5 and 6 The housing assembly 22 has two transceiver module side walls 26 and 28 extending along the length of the optical transceiver module 20 , a transceiver module top wall 30 and a transceiver module bottom wall 32 .

[0030] Such as image 3 and 4 As shown, receptacle 24 may receive a single-fiber (ie, “simplex”) fiber optic cable plug connector, such as LC plug connector 34 , for optical fiber 36 . Because the structure and operation of the fiber optic cable 36 and its LC plug connector 34 are well known in the art, they will not be described in further detail here. One can plug the LC plug connector 34 into the socket 24 in the usual manner. A person may similarly insert the o...

Abstract

The present invention relates to a narrow pluggable optical transceiver system. The transceiver module includes a housing assembly, a single fiber optical cable receptacle, an electronics subassembly having a generally planar substrate in the housing assembly, and an optical subsystem. The optical subsystem redirects the light beam between the surface of the substrate and the optical axis of the socket. The structure of the housing assembly promotes airflow through the transceiver module. The transceiver module can be inserted into the frame or cage of the electronic system. A latch mechanism may be included to secure the transceiver module in the cage. Tabs may be included to facilitate release and removal of the transceiver module from the retainer.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a narrow pluggable optical transceiver system. Background technique [0002] In an optical communication system, it is often necessary to couple an optical fiber to an optoelectronic transmitter, receiver or transceiver device, which in turn couples the device to an electronic system, such as a switching system or a processing system. These connections can be facilitated by making the transceiver device modular. Various transceiver module configurations are known. For example, figure 1 The optical transceiver module 10 shown in , has a standard configuration or form factor commonly referred to as Small Form Factor (SFF) or Small Form Factor Pluggable (SFP) form factor. Transceiver module 10 includes a metal module housing 12 in which optoelectronic, optical, and electronic components are housed, such as one or more light sources (e.g., lasers), light sensors, lenses, and other optical devices, Digital signal driver and rece...
