Embodiment Construction

[0015] figure 1 A gearless traction elevator system 10 with a double coiled traction rope system 11 is illustrated. The first pulley 13 is driven by a lift motor 15 and the second pulley 17 is driven by a lift motor 19 . A power source 21 , such as an electrical utility, provides electrical power to the drive unit 23 via a power line 22 . Alternating current (AC) drive power at variable frequency is supplied to the motors 15 and 19 by a motor drive unit 23 via power lines 24 . Lift motors 15 and 19 are permanent magnet AC motors that change speed as the drive frequency varies. The motor drive unit 23 is controlled by a controller 25 and control signals transmitted via line 26 . The motor drive unit 23 may include a converter for converting AC input power to a DC voltage on the DC bus, and an inverter (or inverters) for converting the DC voltage from the DC bus to AC drive power, The AC drive power has a frequency determined by a control signal from the controller 25 .

Abstract

Provided is a drive system for a gearless elevator in which the first sheave and the second sheave both have driven motors driving a set of ropes in a double wrap traction arrangement driven by both motors to raise and lower the elevator car. The drive system further includes a dynamic braking system having a matrix switching unit for connecting and disconnecting the drive motors from a source of drive power to a resistive bank for receiving electrical energy from the drive motors during dynamic braking.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates generally to elevator systems, and more particularly, to elevator systems including multiple motors for dual wrap traction elevators. Background technique [0002] A typical traction elevator system includes a car and counterweight disposed in the hoistway, a plurality of ropes interconnecting the car and counterweight, and a machine with traction sheaves that engage the ropes. The drive mechanism of the traction elevator may have a traction sheave with grooves for the hoisting ropes of the elevator and an electric hoist motor which drives the traction sheave directly or via a transmission. The ropes are driven by rotation of the traction sheave motor, which causes repositioning of the car and counterweight within the hoistway. The traction machinery and its associated electronics, as well as peripheral elevator components such as regulators and safety components, are typically housed in a machine room located above the ...
