Abstract

The invention provides an MAC (Media Access Control) address withdrawing method in a VPLS (Virtual Private Local Area Network Service) network and PE (Provider Edge) equipment. The MAC address withdrawing method comprises the steps: detecting that an AC link is in a fault and inquiring MAC addresses learned by an AC direct link interface, by the PE equipment; judging whether the quantity of the MAC addresses is more than a preset threshold value or not by the PE equipment, is so, encapsulating only one wildcard address in an MAC List TLV (Threshold Limit Value) of a MAC address list, and if not, encapsulating all the MAC addresses in the MAC List TLV; and sending an address withdraw message carrying the MAC List TLV to other PE equipment which belong to a same VPLS business case together with the PE equipment. According to the MAC address withdrawing method and the PE equipment, the problem of forwarding route errors caused by that a receiver PE misbelieves a sender PW (Pseudo Wire) during topological changing is better solved.
