It is easy to understand that increasing the size of the PMI without changing the reporting mechanism can lead to situations where very large feedback messages caused by very large PMIs will often be received incorrectly

[0060] The RI reporting form carrying the 1-bit codebook subset selection related to the polarization information is provided next, as exemplified in the extension of the PUCCH design of [1].

[0061] image 3 The formal design in shows the PUCCH report type payload size for each report mode, where BP (bandwidth part) is a part of the bandwidth, and 3-bit report type 3a is introduced. Possible rank indications are limited to the range {1, 2, 3, 4}, where the transmitter is equipped with 4 or 8 transmit antenna elements, but the receiver is limited to 4 layers of spatial multiplexing because the receiver has 4 or fewer receive antenna. In the case of open-loop MIMO (modes 1-0 and 2-0), encoding in a fixed size of 3 bits can be performed with a predetermined encoding, thus making the encoding bit size valid for all PUCCH reporting modes using PUCCH reporting type 3a keep it fixed. Note that RI is just the name of the report, although this report contains rank indication and a...

[0069] Figure 8 The formal design in shows the PUCCH report type payload size for each reporting mode, where BP is a fraction of the bandwidth, and 3-bit report type 3c is introduced. When the transmitter is equipped with 8 transmit antenna elements and the receiver has at least 8 receive antennas, the possible rank indications extend to the range {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8}.

[0084] Next, the RI report form carrying the 1-bit codebook subset selection related to the information of the dual codebook structure is provided, as exemplified in the extension of the PUCCH design of [1].

[0085] Another type of enhanced codebook contains a matrix that can be expressed as the product of two matrices W1 and W2, such that the recommended precoder is W1xW2. Typically, the first matrix targets wideband and / or long-term channel state information reporting, while the second matrix targets narrowband (frequency selective) and / or short-term channel state information reporting. One advantage of this structure is that the first matrix can be used as a standalone wideband / long-term precoder, while in combination with the second matrix the precoder can be improved in the frequency / time domain.

[0086] For various reasons that will become apparent later on, the receiver may need to inform the transmitter of the possibility of using only the first matrix W1 as a precod...

Abstract

The present invention relates to a method for adapting the feedback rate of a quantized representation of the propagation channel in a capacity-limited feedback channel. The method comprises obtaining a reference signal from an access point; deriving a rank indication, a codebook subset selection indication and a precoding matrix index based on the obtained reference signal; sending a first feedback message conveying the rank indication and the codebook subset selection indication, and sending a second feedback message conveying the precoding matrix index, to the access point; and receiving, from the access point, data precoded by a matrix derived based on the rank indication, the codebook subset selection indication and the precoding matrix index.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to the field of radio communication systems, in particular to a method for adaptive adjustment of the feedback rate of a quantized representation of a propagation channel in a feedback channel with limited capacity. Background technique [0002] In MIMO OFDMA cellular systems such as 3GPP LTE or IEEE 802.16e / m, closed-loop MIMO precoding is determined to achieve high-throughput downlink transmission for fixed and nomadic users. Feedback information is obtained at the transmitter through the reporting of the Precoding Matrix Index (PMI) from the receiver to the transmitter. This PMI is used to represent the matrix in the codebook (a group of matrices), and is used at the transmitting end to derive the downlink precoding matrix. [0003] A simple codebook structure is used in the first generation MIMO OFDMA system, so that the PMI can be represented by a small number of bits. Small codebooks enable coarse quantization of spatial c...
