Embodiment Construction

[0083] Figures 1 and 2 illustrate a non-limiting example of a method for optimizing parameters of an orthopedic procedure. In these particular examples, these methods are directed to optimizing parameters for a total knee arthroplasty procedure, although those skilled in the art will recognize that these or similar methods can be used for other types of orthopedic procedures, such as other types of knee arthroplasty surgery (such as single or double compartment), hip arthroplasty, shoulder arthroplasty, joint resurfacing, or spinal procedures. The method illustrated in Figures 1 and 2 can be used to optimize one or several parameters of an orthopedic procedure. For example, the method illustrated in Figures 1a and b facilitates optimizing the anatomical and biomechanical fit of an orthopedic implant for a particular patient, whereas the method illustrated in Figure 2 only facilitates optimizing the anatomical fit for a particular patient, not biomechanical fit.

Abstract

Systems and methods for optimizing parameters of an orthopaedic procedure for a particular patient, including parameters relating to the anatomic and biomechanic fit of an implant or implant system implanted into the patient's joint. These systems and methods may utilize patient-specific information gathered pre-operatively in conjunction with optimization algorithms to determine an optimal implant design and an optimal position and orientation for implantation of the implant into the particular patient's joint.
