The method comprises the steps of obtaining a password image entered by a user, converting the password image into a bianry image, searching a coordinate of an initial point of the edge of a target area in the bianry image, calculating with an edge tracing algorithm according to the coordinate of the initial point, obtaining edge information of the target area, and verifying the password image according to the edge information, wherein the edge tracing algorithm comprises an eight neighborhood based edge tracing algorithm based. With the adoption of the method and the mobile terminal, the edge information of the password image can be extracted simply and effectively to verify the password image.
